Classroom Management
I believe classroom management is important to making a successful learning environment for students. Below is a brief description of what I will be using in our classroom.
Behavior Clip Chart
This is a clip chart system that encourages students to practice good classroom behavior throughout the day. All students start the day with their clip on blue. If they break a rule they will move their clip to green. Green is meant to warn students to Stop & Think about their behavior. Blue and green mean they are having a good day. If a rule is broken again, they will move their clip to yellow. Yellow means students need to make better choices concerning their behavior. If they are on yellow they will lose 5 minutes of their recess time. If rules are broken a 3rd time students will move their clip to red. At this point they will lose 10 minutes of their recess. If behaviors continue after red, there is a possibility of being sent to the principal’s office. Once students move their clip they can not go back to a previous color. Yellow and red clips will get a note in their agenda. Any physical contact against another student is an automatic move to red.
Reward System: There are rewards for whole class behavior and individual behavior
Whole Class: Marble Jar
Students can earn marbles as a whole to add to the class marble chart. If I see the whole class working quietly, cooperating together, and so on I will award them a marble. Once students earn 20 marbles they will earn a whole class reward. Possible rewards students can earn:
20 marbles = Candy
40 marbles = Treasure Chest
60 marbles = Sweet Treat from Mrs. Crook
80 marbles = Extra Recess
100 marbles = Lunch with Mrs. Crook
Individual: Reach for the Treasure!
In the classroom we have another clip chart that is specifically for positive behaviors. Students start on the bottom of the chart at the number 1. When they have exhibited some form of positive behavior (listening, being respectful, following directions, etc.) they will be asked to clip up. When they reach the number 10 at the top of the chart they can pick out of our classroom treasure chest!
Positive Office Referrals
If students exhibit any of the 6 character traits they can receive a positive office referral from any teacher in the school. Students who get one of these referrals get to visit the office for doing such a great job,
Marble Jar Reach for the Treasure!
